What Leak being first team all-conference tells us - I'm positive for once!

By now you’ve probably heard that the Leakster made first team All-SEC at quarterback. Yeah I was surprised too, but then I considered the competition. Leak’s numbers definitely stack up. The second team guy was LSwho?’s JaMarcus “chuck and duck” Russell. You remember him from our +5 turnover but still lost game in Baton Rouge last year. Number 4: big guy with a rocket arm, but questionable accuracy and shaky decision-making skills. Threw two to our guys. Russell is actually at risk of losing his job! What does that say about the third teamer (Brandon Cox of Auburn)? Turns out the SEC isn’t very strong at QB this year, lots of teams are transitioning – which means have a realistic chance of having the chips fall right and ending up with the conference title and a Sugar Bowl birth. Some of the talking heads predict it. I think our schedule is a little rough to call us the favorite, but if not us then who? Everyone has issues.

Anyway we also got LB Brandon Siler (40) and SF Reggie Nelson (32) on the first team. Nelson might be called a stretch, but remember this is for the coming year – think potential (last year’s #1 QB was Jay Cutler and they sure nailed that one). Nelson has a bunch and an off-season to build on his experience from last year. The rest of the coaches don’t think much of our offense – receivers Chris Baker (81), second team, and Andre Caldwell (5), third team, were all we got (I bet those are reversed by the end of the season). We did better on defense with DT Marcus Thomas (44), DE Ray McDonald (95), and LB Earl Everett (30) making the second team squad (for those scoring at home that is 5 out of 22 spots, not bad). They deserve kudos for recognizing how affective Thomas is as run stopper, but I’m floored that Everett is second team while DE Jarvis Moss (94) didn’t even get third. Moss will be a force they will have to recognize by the end of the year.

Oh yeah: our kicker (Chris Hetland – 39) make second team and punter (Eric Will-ll-ll-ll-ll-bur – 10) made third team, barely - there was a two man tie for second team, so he is actually the 4th best.

Finally as you may have noticed I have started putting position and numbers with guys so those of you not as fanatical about following the team as I am (chicks) can still see a guy on gameday and connect him to what I said.
